The newest shopping center in San Clemente, the Talega Village Center, is looking to give back to the community by hosting a variety of special events throughout the remainder of 2011. According to an article in the Orange County Register ("Talega Village Center proposes 15 special events"), the Center is hoping to obtain a permit from the City of San Clemente to host up to 15 events in the center during the rest of this year. The first event, a summer-camp expo with a screening of the animated film "Surf's Up," would take place on July 30th in a section of the parking lot. There will be a public hearing tomorrow at 3pm where Jim Holloway, San Clemente's zoming administrator, is expected to rule on the permit request.
Per the article, the events would be held anywhere from 4:30pm to 10:00pm on weekend and will be open to the public. With 100,000 square feet of space, the Talega Village Center is a great place to host outdoor events; the centralized location in Talega, coupled with a large amount of parking and outdoor space, makes the proposal a natural fit. With the majority of outdoor special events currently being held either in Downtown San Clemente or the shopping centers off Avenida Pico east of I5, this is an excellent opportunity for Talega to get into the mix. With Talega being the newest neighborhood in San Clemente, it is also the fastest growing, and creating these special events, coupled with the eventual completion of the La Pata/Vista Hermosa Sports Park and the new Target store, will be fantastic additions for residents of Talega.
