New store brings great shopping, new jobs to San Clemente

After months of construction, the wait is finally over - Target has arrived in San Clemente! As we wrote about a couple of weeks ago ("New Target Store Opening Ahead Of Schedule"), the new Target shopping center was scheduled to have it grand opening yesterday but moved it up to October 5th. According to an article in the San Clemente Times ("Hitting the Target"), the opening has already been a success and has been met with a great deal of enthusiasm from residents.
San Clemente has quite a few shopping centers, but most are a bit older with smaller grocery stores. The new Target shopping center injects fresh life into the city for San Clemente shopaholics, and according to the store manager's quote from the Times' article, San Clemente got the biggest store prototype that Target currently makes. The 142,000-square-foot Target is a department store but also includes a produce section, a pharmacy, Target Cafe, Pizza Hut, and Starbucks. If you read the quotes from residents in the article, you will see a lot of excitement for the new store and the convenience it brings for San Clemente residents, especially those in nearby Talega, Rancho San Clemente, and Forster Ranch. Not only that, but the store will be adding over 200 new jobs to San Clemente (an estimated 80% of which are San Clemente residents), and it is estimated that the city will collect around $300,000 a year in sales tax revenue from the store. Even San Clemente Mayor Lori Donchak stopped by the new Target on opening day to purchase a few items. Needless to say, this is an exciting new development for our city - we hope that all residents are as excited as we are about our new Target store.
