Major Projects On Tap In San Clemente For 2012
General Plan, beach improvements and La Pata extension in the mix

There is a great article in the San Clemente Times about the high-level projects that will be considered in San Clemente during the coming year. The article, "A Look Ahead: Busy 2012 for San Clemente," outlines a variety of large projects that are on the horizon in San Clemente and will hopefully see some progress during the next year. The first project in the article, the Vista Hermosa Sports Park, was just highlighted in our recent blog and is scheduled to open on January 28th. Many of the other projects touched on in the article have been in discussion for a while now and may see some significant progress in 2012, including the extension of Avenida La Pata, the closing of the Ole Hanson Beach Club for renovation assessment, combatting shoreline erosion at Poche Beach, and the City's updated General Plan.
While some of the projects discussed in the article do not receive as much press, all of them would have a direct and positive impact on San Clemente. The extension of Avenida La Pata would provide an additional way for residents to exit the city in case of emergency, especially inland residents of Forster Ranch and Talega. San Clemente's General Plan will outline the overall goals and policies of the city, including San Clemente's first Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan (which we wrote about in September 2010). The improvements proposed for Poche Beach, which include reducing pollution at the beach and bringing back more sand to the eroding shoreline, will ensure that one of San Clemente's most popular beaches may still be enjoyed by all. The expansion of the San Clemente Library would double the size of the existing library, which can only be viewed as a good thing for residents who take advantage of this excellent public resource. Finally, the article touches on the Pico Interchange project, which would add lanes and widen the interchange at this heavily congested area on the 5 Freeway.
For anyone who is interested on what is to come in our wonderful city, please be sure to give this article a read. There appears to be a lot on the horizon for San Clemente in 2012, which should make for another year of excellent improvements that will only add to the overall quality of life enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
