For the most part, San Clemente is one of the safer cities in Orange County and an overall comfortable and pleasant place to live or visit. Neighbors tend to be very respectful of each other, which is one of the aspects that makes San Clemente such a unique city - a coastal community with a small-town feel is how you will hear many people describe San Clemente. However, like any city where you may choose to settle down, there will be crime. Cities in Orange County are consistently considered some of the safer ones in the state of California, and for good reason - local law enforcement takes a heavy interest in the safety of the city and its residents and visitors. An article in the Orange County Register, "San Clemente to launch neighborhood alerts," highlights a new and unique neighborhood alert system that is coming to San Clemente neighborhoods next month.
The article discusses the partnership of San Clemente with Nixie LLC, a company that provides a free neighborhood alert system that is subscription-based. The system will launch in early February and will serve, as the article's author puts it, as "a sort of digital Neighborhood Watch." The neighborhood alerts will be posted on a website and can also be set up to be delivered to your email or your cell phone via text message. As the article points out, this is similar to the current Alert OC system that San Clemente uses to spread the word on larger-scale threats such as a tsunami or fire; this new system is designed to operate more on the neighborhood level. There will be a meeting held at San Clemente City Hall (100 Avenida Presidio) at 7:00pm on January 30th where Neighborhood Watch block captains will receive information about the new program - however, the general public is welcome to attend.
This appears to be an excellent idea that is being implemented by the city and yet another example of why owning San Clemente real estate is a great decision. This exemplifies how the city works in favor of its citizens while asking that residents work together to make San Clemente an even better place to live.
