Celebrate The History Of Surfing In San Clemente

Special event honoring city's surfing heritage being held at OC Tavern

Posted on June 29, 2011 by Matt.

San Clemente features a variety of fantastic homes and outdoor activities, but if you ask almost anyone about their impression of San Clemente, the conversation will ultimately lead to the city's rich surfing heritage.  Home to some of the best surf spots in the United States (and, in the case of Trestles, the world) along with multiple surfing magazines and surf shops, San Clemente is renowned for its incredible surfing history that is pretty much unmatched by other coastal cities in California.  According to the City of San Clemente's website, Mayor Lori Donchak and others will pay tribute to San Clemente's surfing legacy this evening with an event at the popular OC Tavern (2369 S. El Camino Real) in Southeast San Clemente.  The event will take place from 5:00-7:00pm and is open to the general public.  The publisher of local magazine The Surfer's Journal, Steve Pezman, will announce the 21 honorees of the Celebration of San Clemente's Surfing Heritage, and Mayor Donchak will make a presentation to the Surfing Heritage Foundation.

Surfing is in the DNA of San Clemente and is one of the many things that makes this city an incredible place to live and visit.  Show your support for a sport that helped put San Clemente on the map and attend this great event.
