Caltrans Begins Soundwall Construction in San Clemente

Two new soundwalls being built on northbound side of I-5

Posted on January 10, 2011 by Matt.

On January 7th, cars travelling northbound on Interstate 5 through San Clemente after 9pm may have been discouraged by traffic due to lane closures between the Avenida Vista Hermosa and Camino De Estrella freeway exits.  Drivers should take note that the lane closures were purportedly a one-day event, and San Clemente residents of North San Clemente, the Coast District and Marblehead will be especially happy about the reason for the closures.  Beginning January 7th, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) commenced work on removing a current soundwall and building two new soundwalls along the northbound side of the 5 Freeway just north of the Avenida Vaquero underpass.  The work will take place for approximately 150 days and will happen between the hours of 6:30am and 3:30pm starting January 17th; there will be no lane closures, but the right shoulder near the Avenida Vaquero underpass will be closed.  Besides the new soundwalls, Caltrans will be adding new landscaping to the area, and the Caltrans Construction Alert on the project claims that traffic should not be impacted.
